Oregon Illinois is the county seat of Ogle County in Northwest Illinois. It also has the distinction of being surrounded by three of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources' State Parks: Lowden State Park, Castle Rock State Park and White Pines Forest State Park.

Lowden State Park

Lowden State Park is located north of Oregon on River Road. It was developed in 1945 as a memorial to Governor Frank Lowden. The 273 acre site was originally the home to a group of artists called the Eagles Nest Colony. The land was purchased with the assistance of the citizens of Oregon. A 66 acre portion of the site was turned over to Northern Illinois University in 1951 and is used as a research and educational facility called Lorado Taft Field Campus.

The most recognizable feature of the park is Black Hawk Statue. Black Hawk stands high on a bluff overlooking the Rock River and is the beginning of the sculpture trail in Oregon.
