Summer blockbuster movies are great inspiration for children’s birthday party themes. This summer is the year to host a pirate themed party, now that Captain Jack Sparrow, Davy Jones and Elizabeth Swan are at The World’s End in the latest movie in this fantastic series. However, now that Hollywood has given us a new twist, it’s a good time to incorporate some additional aspects into your party.
Davy Jones Candle Craft:
Using a large sand box or several buckets filled with sand, let the guests create their own mélange of sea creatures and wax. Let the guests dig a small well in the sand and line it with their choice of shells, starfish, and coral bits. (these items can be found at your local craft store or collect them at the beach). Have an adult pour in melted paraffin and set in a wick that’s been weight with a heavy pebble. The top of the wick can be tied around a pencil or a stick that spans the width of the sand well. Let the candle set and harden following the instructions that came with the paraffin. Once the candle is set, the guests can gently dig out the wax and remove their candle, which should resemble one of the sea-life encrusted shipmates aboard the Flying Dutchman.
