The FX Network's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia chronicles the misadventures of "The Gang," a bunch of solipsistic, misguided friends who own and manage a second-rate bar called Paddy's Pub. The television show co-starts Danny DeVito (as Frank Reynolds), and creates absurd plot lines capable of showcasing the group's eccentricities.

In addition to Mac and Frank, the other members of "The Gang" are Charlie Kelly (played by Charlie Day), Dennis Reynolds (played by Glenn Howerton), and Deandra Reynolds (played by Kaitlin Olson).

Within the gang, Mac often demands taking control of whatever situation arises in each of the sitcom's episodes. Though he suffers from delusions of competence, it's not difficult to blame Mac for feeling as though he's the best suited to handle any situation which comes the group's way, as he's clearly the most motivated of the bunch. Within the gang, Mac's controlling nature is simultaneously annoying, amusing and, often, overpowering (though only because of the gang's willingness to bow to an energy they often fail to muster themselves).
