Christians are occasionally faced with a civil law that they’d really rather not obey. We would like to believe that because we are Christians we should not have to expose ourselves to unbelievers’ opinions. We think we should be free to live with, work with and employ our own kind, and that the taxes we pay should never go to support anything not in accordance with our beliefs. But is that what the Bible says?
On the contrary, the Bible explicitly instructs Christians to obey worldly laws: “Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.”(Zondervan KJV Study Bible, I Pet 2:5)
